Poverty in the District of Parry Sound is a longstanding and serious problem, and it’s getting worse. That’s why we have formed a poverty reduction group. We are a network of local individuals and organizations committed to reducing poverty, and we need your support.

Have you or a family member been personally affected by poverty, now or in the past? Or are you concerned about or working with people living in poverty? Then come to a meeting or community forum and learn about our poverty reduction efforts. Help us paint a clear picture of what poverty looks like and what more needs to be done. Join people from all walks of life working for a poverty-free district and province, to bring our issues to our political leaders and the public, and demand protection for the unemployed, the poor and the vulnerable.

We meet regularly to share information and develop strategies to raise awareness. Our “Road Show” will be visiting communities throughout the District in the coming weeks to create profiles of poverty. In June we will hold a major forum on housing and hunger. In the fall we intend to deliver our report card to the public on how the provincial government has been doing to improve lives in our District.

Please consider how you could make a difference in the District of Parry Sound by adding your voice and abilities to our group.
Contact us for more information by email at pspoverty@gmail.com  or by telephone at 705-746-5801 ext 3226.
